AGH God-Empowered project strengthens communities

As Nigeria, a seemingly rich nation, continues to face significant poverty challenges, with many people classified as being poor, the AGH God Empowered Project, executed by the SHEAD Center, Nigeria, was a beacon of hope, helping to change the trajectory of multiple neglected families in Osun and Kwara States. The project, which aims to remind people that “God sees them,” targets individuals engaged in informal economic activities, such as street vending and small-scale trading, offering them hope of a better tomorrow.

Basic human dignity is enhanced by increasing people’s earning power. Financial empowerment also makes it easier for people today to set themselves up for the future. The intervention, which included nine primary beneficiaries identified during the 2025 Christmas outreach and twenty-two randomly selected roadside hawkers, encouraged the participants to see beyond their limitations.

They learned about enhanced financial discipline and received adequate capital for their business ventures, thereby strengthening their livelihoods and changing their economic standing. To be successful, the project combined practical business education, financial literacy, and direct capital support for the selected businesses.

Of the nine primary beneficiaries, seven people received N150,000 each, while a disabled computer science OND graduate received N300,000 to start his computer repair business. In addition, twenty-two roadside traders received N30,000 each to boost their ventures.

While the project was targeted, it demonstrated the value of focused empowerment efforts and highlighted opportunities for continued expansion and sustained support to deepen long‑term community impact. The human compassion reflected through the project left the beneficiaries overwhelmed with gratitude to God, who they learned sees them and wants them to thrive in their ventures.
