Lord, to whom shall we go?

In the movie and book “The Jesus Skeptic, after Les Strobel had used his investigative journalism expertise to investigate and refute Christ's birth, death, and resurrection, he found that all the evidence pointed to the truth of the Scriptures. Despite all the evidence he gathered, he still did not believe it. His friend and mentor had to tell him that he had to decide for himself whether to believe in Christ based on the evidence he had gathered. The same applies to us. We have to reach a point in our lives when we say, “God has shown me enough; I choose to trust Him and take Him at His Word.”

In my personal life, I have had multiple occasions when I have said, “Lord, if you do this and that…” And when the Lord does those things, the devil will still put thoughts in my mind that it was just coincidences. I have also tried to do things on my own, and I suffered failures. Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that to truly know God, we must first surrender to Him with absolute childlike trust and obedience.

Our Lord Jesus said, “If you believe, you will see the glory of God” (John 11:40). We must first believe in Him and His Word before we can see His glory. We must each come to the point where we make the conscious decision to totally trust and surrender to the Lord and His word, like Esther, who said, “If I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16), and like Peter in John 6:67-69:

“67 “You do not want to leave, too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” - John 6:67-69

When we are in this state of absolute trust and obedience, like children, we will enter into a new phase of walking with, intimacy with, and knowledge of God.

We must each come to the point where we make the conscious decision to totally trust and surrender to the Lord and His word, like Esther, who said, “If I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16). When we are in this state of absolute trust and obedience, like a child, then we will enter into a new phase of walking with, intimacy with, and knowledge of God.
